Introduction

Welcome to Shadeside. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal data. This privacy policy explains how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.

Data Collection

Shadeside does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. There is no account, no sign-in and no analytics. The app downloads map data files for the cities you choose; those requests carry no identifier of you or your device beyond what any web request necessarily includes.

Location

Shadeside uses your device location to show where you are, to suggest the city around you and to plan a route from your current position. Your location never leaves your device. Sun position and shade are computed on device, and route planning runs on data already downloaded to your phone. You can use the app without granting location access by choosing a city manually — the first-run setup asks before any system permission prompt appears.

Data Storage

The app stores locally on your device:

• Downloaded city data (buildings, trees and footpaths) for offline use
• Your recent destinations, so a repeated walk is one tap away
• Settings (chosen city, shade model preferences)

This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us. You can delete any downloaded city, or clear everything, in Settings.

Third-Party Services

Map tiles, place search and walking directions are provided by Apple Maps, and are subject to Apple's privacy policy. Building, tree and footpath data comes from OpenStreetMap and is prepared in advance and served from our content delivery network. The current UV index is fetched from Open-Meteo using approximate coordinates. We do not integrate advertising or tracking SDKs.

Analytics and Tracking

Shadeside does not integrate with third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. We do not share your data with any third parties for marketing purposes.

This website

The sections above describe the iOS app. This website is separate. If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic: pages viewed, referrer and campaign (including UTM parameters), approximate geography and device, and clicks through to the App Store. We do not use analytics for advertising, we do not sell this data, and Google Signals is not enabled.

Cookies we may set:

• Necessary — your analytics choice (rc_consent, 6 months). A landing-page experiment cookie may also be set when that test is running.
• Analytics (optional) — Google Analytics first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_*, only after you accept. Google may process this data in the United States under Google's privacy policy.

You can accept or reject analytics in the cookie banner, or change your choice later via Cookie settings in the footer. Rejecting analytics does not affect the app or the rest of the site.

Children's Privacy

Shadeside is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new privacy policy in the app and updating the "Last updated" date.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect personal data on our servers, there is no data held by us for you to access, modify, or delete. You can manage location access and delete the app and its local data at any time via iOS settings.
